Laura: Laura Winslow’s artistic training began early. As a child she learned pastels and watercolors from her mother, Ruth C. Winterbottom. In her late teens she studied watercolor for three years with Edgar Whitney on Long Island. After earning a degree in advertising art from SUNY in Farmingdale, New York, she worked as a staff artist for J. Walter Thompson in NYC and took additional classes at the Art Students League of New York. During this period many of her illustrations sold at Hemri Bendel’s. Laura worked in advertising agencies in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York and for a local newspaper in Burlington, Vermont. It was while living in Vermont that Laura had the opportunity to study landscape painting with Frank Mason of the Art Students League.
