Birds on the brain

Today I had to do shore birds.... these are white rump sandpipers, another very long migrater.
From the Arctic where it breeds to South America... during the spring...they travel across the central and east coast of the States, they like wet lands....
I worked on my wren...putting in green color... the first signs of spring...

These guys are Sanderlings, the best known shore bird in the world.:) these are the little guys you see running on the beeches looking for little tiny crustaceans (sea bugs) :)
They also migrate from Arctic to South America... busy little guys...

It was a cold, icy, grey day... but I was about to spend the funniest day with my grandies!!!
And It was a grand day out

We galloped from one adventure to another... first up was funny face lunch... and wow were they delicious...not a crumb left on the plate! -- to making a wonderful tart to have with tea....

To painting , each had their own masterpiece

And here are the funny face sandwiches... each their own design... aren't they looking yummy?

We also read books and just had a great day... I have the best grandies...
and we have the best time together...

Carolina Wren

I have been seeing a little wren all winter hanging around the back door... and sometimes coming to my window feeder... he is a brave little guy to stick around here in winter... So I decided to paint him today... found an old painting of daffies and tried sticking two of these little guys in the picture

while painting... my friends visited me at the window...sorry I did not get a picture for you...
cleaning up now...and need to take a walk...

The Best of Winter

I think Winter has much to offer... It's beauty that is so refreshing and different than the green seasons... and the warmth it brings as we gather together for food and fellowship.
Today I had a dear friend over and we sat by a sunny window , had tea and tasted homemade treats and just shared our lives, laughing, serious talk, talk of spring.., just talk...

I tried making a plum tart, only I did not have plums, substituted prunes, along with apples and pears... it was perfect fare for a winter afternoon... with that perfect cup of tea... and that perfect friend!

Winter does inspire me...I love the contrast of black and white.. and all the in between grays

Find someone that likes to go all out with special meals and get your self invited over..... it is so rich and a nice experience during these long grey days...

AS you can see I know several folks that can put on a good meal...:)... and the fellowship is just as wonderful...

So now that the festive gatherings of Christmas are behind us..... we still have a few months left of this cold and wintry weather...cook up something yummy and have a friend over to enjoy it with... chase the cold with warm fellowship :)
"A generous man will prosper;
and he who refreshes others will himself be refreshed

Snow Day

Today it snowed.. it was beautiful... and I decided I could not drive in it... so.. I stayed home... got my paints out and painted all day

I have to get some paintings ready for another show in February... so I got busy

for a break... I ran outside to take some shots...but it is really cold, so could not stay long..

I heard from friends in Vt...they got 33" of snow... guess I should be happy , we only got 5"
I love the snow.. it makes such a beautiful white world...
just don't like driving in it...
enjoy the winter... it will pass
