Junco's in snow

I love the little Junco... his coloring is perfect for a wintry day... His little belly looks like it is dusted with snow. He makes a nice contrast on the white snow....

or tucked away in a bush all puffed up... these are images that I love to try and catch on paper... Today during the snow storm the little tree out back that had berries was covered in robins...all puffed up.. they looked out of place.... like where is spring... ?

Their color of red was really pretty against the white snow.... wish I had a picture for you...
Perhaps that will be my next sketch..
Tomorrow back to work... it was so special to have a day to paint and sketch... a real treat. I have to do some paintings for Ann.... :)... that is my goal for the next week.....

Sepia .Sketches

Today we were stranded at home because of a wonderful deep snow fall....After shoveling and admiring the blanket of snow on everything... I got out my sketch pad.... Since I am away from my real studio... all I had was a bottle of sepia ink and my box of brushes and pens....
Brown is not the colors outside right now... but I did not have blue...only brown ink...so I came up with these...ideas for paintings later.... Rembrandt and da Vinci... sketched in Sepia..It is good practice with 3 values...and I love browns....
These are the trees outside the window.... lots of texture with white snow all around... It sure is nice to have a day to create . Hope all you in Indiana that got stuck home.. did something creative today... God created today with His amazing snow...making everything white... with sparkles, creating designs in shades of blues and purples.... It was a new world this morning....hope you could enjoy it.

This is Winter

Hey... How are you all doing?? Today we had a lovely snow fall and I got to stay home... and enjoy its beauty from the warm chair inside... Winter has its palette of beauty..... full of rich colors... textures .
The Sky is the big show... with its gorgeous colors at dusk.. or in the morning.. it is awesome... shades of purple, pink and deep grey blues... I always enjoy it's never ending colors.... the trees show their skeletons...there unique shapes.. and lovely lines... look at those giant oaks... and perfectly formed maples... Shadows on snow tend to be purpley blue, the birds and squirrels are so entertaining.

the textures of dried grasses against the white snow... The blue -purple tree lines and the Lacy dark branches against a pink sky.... it is all so different than summer....but don't miss it... it will make your winter more enjoyable if you look with an artist eye...

And hang in there... everyday gets us closer to Spring!!
